External Headers Inspection

Inspect the outside surface of return headers, inlet and outlet headers, pipe headers, flanges, fittings, valves and rolled joints for cracks and leaks.

Look particularly at welds along all fillets, and at the intersections of the ear and body of lug-type headers. Look for leakage at any cracks or porous areas in the body of header casting and fittings. Inspect all rolled joints for leakage, appearance of loosening, and cracks in adjacent tube surfaces. Inspect at plugs for leakage.

Inspect external parts of valves for cracks, proper adjustments, and condition of threads, packing, and gland assembly.

Inspect all visible welds, connections, and joints in pipe headers for cracks and leakage. Hammer-test, ultrasonically test and/or x-ray as necessary.
