Inspection of Heating Element After a Fire
Inspect affected tubes for overheating; warping; and excessive scaling, burning, or bulging of the tube metal. We recommend you consult a materials specialist as to temperature reached or effect of heating and cooling on tube metal, particularly in the case of alloy tubes. Overheated tubes can have significantly altered material properties.
Inspect affected header for distortion, overheating, cracks and rolled joint leakage.
Inspect holding members and screws in the fire area for scale, distortion, and hardness. Reheat-treat as required.
Apply a hydrostatic strength test to the entire heating element and inspect for leakage and any evidence of weakness.
